Salomon moves part of sports equipment production from Romania to Ukraine

French sports equipment manufacturer Salomon has transferred to Ukraine part of its Romanian production, generating a decline in the business of Romanian-based suppliers by a few million euros. "We have not been producing for them since last year, when they left Romania and transferred our production to Ukraine. This is probably cheaper. It was an important client to us, because we had been working together for four years," said representatives of Witext Lugoj. Salomon halted collaboration with a few of its seven main suppliers at the end of 2008, after several years of working together. The cumulated turnover of the French manufacturer's seven partners exceed 50 million euros per year, with Salomon contracts accounting for over 40% of operations on average. Salomon's Romanian production division could not be contacted, and the sales division could not provide details on production relocation.
