Only 2 Romanian entrepreneurs in top 500 of regional heavyweights

The Interagro group, controlled by businessman Ion Niculae, and Transilvania General Import-Export of the Micula brothers are the first companies with Romanian private capital that have made it among the top 500 largest companies in Central Europe in terms of turnover in 2008, a ranking put together by consulting and auditing company Deloitte. Four new Romanian companies entered this ranking, put together by Deloitte Central Europe, with the support of Deloitte Romania. This brings the number of Romanian companies in the ranking to 34, with the four new entries being Interagro, Transilvania General Import-Export, CFR Calatori and Renault Industrie Roumanie. The Interagro group, owned by Ioan Niculae, who operates in the chemical industry and in agriculture, is present in the top 500 at number 174, with a 1.09 billion-euro turnover in 2008, down 9.4% against the previous year.
