Grand Arena shopping centre, which opened in south Bucharest
in March last year, has only six tenants left on its upper floor -
Swiss Grill, Spring Time, and four coffee shop and fast food
restaurant operators - after around 15 retailers had to close down
their stores.
The mall was developed by the French business family Harfi,
who announced late last year that it would charge "zero rent" to
the around 20 tenants on the mall's upper floor for a determined
period. Some of these tenants however say that the terms of the
deal had not been met, and they had to close down their
stores.
Companies that have had to leave include jewellery retailers,
children's clothing retailers, a drugstore, a coffee shop, as well
as the children's play area.
There are currently around 70 stores operating in the shopping
centre, with the biggest tenants being Carrefour, Altex, Kiabi,
Leonardo, Intersport, Orsay, and Sephora.
