How many ski slopes Romania has got and which resorts have the best ski infrastructure are questions that representatives of the Ministry for Regional Development and Tourism led by Elena Udrea have not been able to answer so far, in the context where promotion of domestic tourism is one of the ministry's goals.

ZF sent a request two weeks ago to Ministry representatives with specific questions, but so far has only received a list of certified slopes in Romania.

Agencies that sell skiing holiday packages to Romania are more familiar with the length of certified ski slopes in Romania.

"The entire ski domain in Romania is equivalent to one in an Austrian resort (...)," said Mircea Vlad, owner of travel agency Prestige Tours.

According to information provided by Romanian tourism officials, who say there are 90 slopes in Romania, as well as using data provided by operators in the sector and data available on the websites of mountain resorts, there are, currently 140-150 km of mountain slopes in Romania, whereas the French resort of Risoul, for instance, boasts 180 kilometres. Moreover, the Salzburg land in Austria has 22 ski domains with 1,700 kilometres of slopes.
