German-held STI Group, with 260 million euros in yearly turnover, started packaging production last month at the group's first production facility in Romania, located in Cluj-Napoca.

The 2,000 square-metre packaging plant makes various types of folding boxes and is STI Group's thirteenth production facility, according to information on the company's website.

German group STI has been present in Romania since the end of 2008 through STI Packaging Ro, which opened a consulting and design office in Cluj last year. STI Packaging Ro currently has 30 employees and intends to hire more staff for the new packaging plant in Cluj.

STI Packaging Ro representatives did not specify the value of the investment or the production capacity of the Cluj facility. According to ZF estimates made halfway through 2008, when the investment was announced, such a project, which operates cardboard production or processing equipment, amounts to around 10 million euros.
