Grand Arena opens karting track on the first floor
An indoor karting track has been set up close to the food court
in Grand Arena shopping centre in southern Bucharest about a month
ago, in an attempt to keep up with increasing competition from
shopping centres.
According to representatives of developers, a five-minute ride
costs 10 RON, whilst in Cotroceni Park, another mall in Bucharest
that offers this kind of entertainment, a ten-minute race costs
between 30 and 45 RON, depending on the day and on the time
interval.
The track has been set up on the upper floor of the shopping
centre, where Grand Arena is now left with less than ten tenants,
mostly coffee shop and restaurant operators, after around 20 of the
project's retailers closed their stores in winter. In southern
Bucharest, competition among malls has been increasingly tight
after around a month ago the Sun Plaza project was inaugurated next
to Piata Sudului metro station. Grand Arena required a 180
million-euro investment and counts Carrefour, Altex, Deichmann, and
Kiabi among its tenants.
