The Government will continue to tax companies' losses in 2010 by preserving the minimal tax on the turnover, although the lump-sum tax would be a fairer taxation and an effective instrument in the fight against tax evasion, believe fiscal consultants.

It is obvious for the entire market that the lump-sum tax draft law has been pushed back until 2011 in order for the Government to be certain that around 1 billion RON will be collected to the budget from the minimal tax. Moreover, the Finance Ministry has yet to find a version of the lump sum tax that is not considered unjust by the various categories of merchants and service providers targeted - bars, restaurants, taxi drivers, small hotel operators, hairdressers, repair shops and car washes.
