Businessman Gabriel Popoviciu, who controls the Baneasa shopping centre in northern Bucharest through Baneasa Developments, will start construction of a 13-screen cinema, a petrol station, and a 4,000 square-metre entertainment centre, the company announced.

The three projects entail an overall investment of 22 million euros, with the entertainment centre to be completed in the spring of next year, while the cinema is set for inauguration in the second half of 2011.

The announcement comes around a month after the businessman completed the sale of the IKEA store in Baneasa, which fetched him around 30 million euros, according to ZF estimates.

The cinema in the Baneasa area will cover 15,000 square metres and will seat over 2,700 people. The entertainment centre will include a bowling area, video games and other types of entertainment, while the petrol station will include a car wash and a drive-in restaurant.
