April was the first month in 2010 when revenues recorded by Bucharest's Howard Johnson five-star hotel rose 5% in the context where it organised several business events, after the first quarter of the year saw an 11% decline in the hotel's revenues.
"We can say April 2010 was a better month than April 2009. The rising trend has been preserved in May, which got off to a good start, and creates the premises for an optimistic second quarter," said Sonia Nastase, the hotel's general manager.
N`stase, 37, took over at the helm of the five-star Bucharest hotel, controlled by businessman Gabriel Popoviciu. Sonia Nastase is the first Romanian woman to be appointed general manager of a five-star hotel in Bucharest, while all other five-star hotel managers - of Intercontinental, Hilton, JW Marriott, Radisson, and Crowne Plaza - are expats.
Howard Johnson posted a 2.4 million-euro turnover in January-April of this year, which compares with 2.5 million euros in the similar period of last year.
