Amid the falling incomes, rising leasing instalments and
insurance premiums, hundreds of luxury cars, with prices beyond
30,000 euros, have been sold by owners abroad, particularly on
markets such as Germany, Poland or the Czech Republic. "Our
estimates based on feedback from dealers are that between 100 and
200 expensive used cars with prices of above 30,000-40,000 euros go
abroad monthly. The basic idea is that dealers do not make any
efforts to export, they just want to sell them," stated Attila
Okanyi, manager of Autovit.ro, the biggest car offers website in
Romania. He explained that this situation mainly occurs in the case
of dealers of expensive cars, of premium brands, which at the time
of the acquisition asked for small down payments, of 10-15%, but
then had to recoup even as much as 80% of the initial price of the
car.
They could not longer wait more than two months, the usual
average period for the resale of a car, and sought destocking
channels other than the domestic market. According to the
information provided by Autovit representatives, most premium used
cars, whose acquisition prices topped 80,000 euros and currently
sell at half the value, after export reach the car fleets of
experienced dealers of Western markets.
