The biggest greenfield investment in the constructions field after the '90s, Calarasi-based glass plant built by French group Saint-Gobain, with annual turnover worth 37.7bn euros, is set to be expanded in the following years, with the French giant wanting the platform to become a leading production centre of the French group in Europe on the medium term. The French company chose not to disclose the value of planned investments, but stated they would further develop the production facility in Calarasi. After 130m-euro investments in the past four years, Saint-Gobain will earmark another 6m euros this year to set up a laminated glass production line, and expansion will not stop here. The 80-ha plant has come to produce from simple float glass, to solar control or low-emissivity glass in three years. Construction works for the laminated glass production line will start in the second half of this year, with the new line set to become operational in mid-2011.
