Dacia registrations increased by almost 23% in the first five
months of this year in Europe, to over 110,000 cars, a volume the
Romanian market can only dream of this year, as the most upbeat
estimates point to a level of 100,000 units at the highest. In May,
the market share of the domestic carmaker stood at 2.1% in Europe,
comparable to Huyndai's and topping Kia's (1.9%), Chevrolet's
(1.3%), Mazda's (1.3%) and Suzuki's (1.3%). Against a volume of
110,000 Dacia cars registered in the first five moths, including
those of Romania, the sales of Mioveni-based carmaker can be valued
at almost 900m euros, according to ZF calculations. Exports account
for over 90% in Dacia output, from an 85% average last year. At the
same time, as the European market slid by almost 9% in May
year-on-year, Dacia sales went down by 3.6% in the same period, and
thus the Romanian market added further market share in May.
The
biggest market for Dacia in Europe is still France, with almost
50,000 cars, namely almost half of Mioveni exports, followed by
Germany with almost 10,000 units and Spain with 8,700 cars.
