Consumption of durable consumer goods needs to be restarted considering that retailers of electronics, home appliances, and furniture, as well as service providers continue to announce sales declines. Rural areas can in fact be one of the growth drivers, businesspeople agreed, and tried, at Ziarul Financiar's request, to outline methods of accelerating demand for these goods and services. At present, villages, where 45% of Romania's population is concentrated, spend 26% to 71% less on furniture, household items, telephones, and photo-video equipment than people in urban areas. The conclusion is simple - the growth potential is big, but additional measures are needed, such as support for the first acquisition, investments in infrastructure, and restarting lending.
