ZF has as a first put together the ranking of the top companies either Romanian-held or held by foreign entrepreneurs whose business is focused on the Romanian market, which reveals that, despite the top 50 Romanian businesses recording a similar turnover to that of the top five foreign companies in the economy (Petrom, Dacia, Rompetrol Metro, Orange), Romanian entrepreneurs manage to dominate sectors such as constructions, pharmaceuticals, and distribution.
This is the first ranking that puts the spotlight on Romanian entrepreneurs who post millions of euros in turnover via one single company, but does not include the businesses of such businesspeople as the Micula brothers (European Drinks), Marius Cristescu (Bega), George Copos (Ana Holding), Dan Sucu (Mobexpert), Adrian Porumboiu (Comcereal), Ovidiu Tender (Prospectiuni). They control groups of firms with tens or hundreds of millions of euros in turnover, but whose individual entities derive small turnovers.
The ranking brings to the forefront businesses controlled by people such as Alin Niculae (Oscar Downstream), Augustin Oancea (Tinmar-Ind), Baaklini Said, who holds Romanian citizenship (Libarom Agri), according to the Trade Registry, with around 100 million euros in turnover per entity.
More than half the Romanian businesses were on the rise, proving that despite Romania still being in recession, there are sectors where big money can be made. The biggest rise was recorded in the agricultural sector, where Agro-Chirnogi in Calarasi almost doubled its turnover.
