Romtelecom, no. 1 on the fixed telephony market and one of the biggest providers of TV and internet services on the Romanian market, posted 178.7 million euros in revenues in the second quarter of the year, down 11.1% on the similar period of last year, amid the difficult economic situation, which affected consumption.
The company's EBITDA was down by 59.7%, to 24.4 million euros. The operating result (EBIT) amounted to a 41.5 million-euro loss, after a 1.5 million-euro loss in the second quarter of last year.
The company however had 10 million euros in supplementary revenues from other sources than telecommunications operations, such as rent and penalties, so Romtelecom's overall revenues fell by around 9% in the second quarter against the similar time last year. The number of subscribers to Romtelecom services rose to 4.5 million, with the increases recorded by broadband internet and television services offsetting the decline of the fixed telephony segment, according to the company.
