The budget collects most money from VAT in Bucharest, while Calarasi and Teleorman counties transfer the lowest amount of money, reveal first-half Finance Ministry data.

The major taxpayers transferred 7.7 billion RON to the budget in the first six months, mostly from Bucharest, which account for net VAT revenues, reveal the data sent by the National Fiscal Administration Agency at the request of ZF.
The amount accounts for almost half of the total VAT revenues of the general consolidated budget, which totalled 16.4 billion RON in the first half.

The major taxpayer category includes about 2,000 companies, with over 70 million RON (16.5 million euros) in turnover.

VAT is the main source of revenue of the state budget and the second most important resource of the consolidated budget after social contributions.

In a bid to find additional resources for the budget, the Finance Ministry raised the VAT by 5% to 24% this year, expecting to get 1.4 billion RON more than before.

The city of Bucharest came out second in the VAT revenue ranking, with 3.1 billion RON. Third among the top ten counties in terms of VAT revenues is Constanta, with 826.8 million RON, followed by Ilfov with 604.5 million RON.

At the bottom of the net VAT revenue ranking are Caras-Severin (16.4 million RON), Teleorman (13.6 million RON) and Calarasi (-2.2 million RON).
