IKEA pays Cataramă 1.8m euros after a several years' trial
Elvila, a company controlled by businessman Viorel Cataramă, has won a lawsuit with IKEA Trading, the representative office through which the Swedish giant acquires furniture from Romanian producers, in the wake of which it will receive around 1.8m euros.
The case was registered in 2005 and after three years Bucharest
Court of Law decided that IKEA Trading und Design (currently IKEA
Supply AG Switzerland) should pay 0.6m euros in damages and another
82,000 RON (20,000 euros) as trial expenditures.
Subsequently, both firms filed an appeal, and the High Court of
Cassation and Justice ruled that IKEA Trading also pay 49,000 euros
for the unused raw materials and 1.1m euros for the unrealised gain
due to order halt.
Contacted by ZF, Viorel Cataramă confirmed the existence of this
verdict, but specified he "has not and is not discussing trial
outside court".
IKEA Trading representatives made no comment by edition close.
