The latest edition of the Paris Motor Show had one undisputed star: the electric car, which, unlike in previous years, no longer looked like something out of a science fiction movie, but resembled the car that many Romanians have in their garages. The enthusiasm of auto manufacturers apart, the dream of the electric car, with all its advantages, will not become reality until after the necessary fuelling infrastructure is created.

"In Romania the electric cars market could rise from the current niche level to somewhere between 11 and 30% in 2030, according to some surveys," say specialists at General Electric, one of the world's leading suppliers of industrial applications.

On the other hand, market specialists say there are no electric cars in Romania at present, with only hybrid cars being available, which do not even account for 0.1%.

According to recent statements from Ford officials, in five years' time the penetration rate of electric cars could be 2-3%, and as much as 5% in 10 years' time.
