Mobexpert, IKEA and kika expect higher sales for seasonal items this Christmas
In furniture and home décor stores, sales of seasonal items are likely to rise by 20-30% from a year ago amid the broader offer, according to the estimates of the main players in the field.
The biggest retailers, Mobexpert, IKEA and kika, derive between
15% and 50% of turnover through home accessories, and in
November-December several thousand euros are additionally brought
by globes, lighting items and other Christmas specific
decorations.
Against the annual turnovers of tens of million euros reported by
the companies in this field, the several hundred thousand euros
generated by this product category do not mean much, but given that
sales have been dwindling in the past two years, any increase is
welcome.
"We expect sales of Christmas decorations to go well this year as
we expanded our offer. (...) We expect a 20% increase against last
year," says Dan Şucu, Mobexpert owner.
Rival kika is more upbeat. "At this moment, we see a 30% increase
in sales for this category as the offer is bigger, location is
better and the number of visitors has risen by 10% amid the changed
promotion ways," said Lars Lund, country manager with kika
Romania.
