Americans at Groupon want to attract 500,000 subscribers in Romania
American-based Groupon, which has developed a global network of websites with 40 million subscribers, proposing to users in every country a "deal of the day" every day - the possibility to purchase a product or a service at a discount for a limited period of time, estimates it could reach 500,000 subscribers for the service that will become operational in Romania next week.
The business model that the site is based on has customers
buying something pay for it online by card and receive a voucher,
which they then use to collect the product.
"We have sealed contracts with 100 companies in Romania," Cem
Tunakan, CEO of Groupon Romania, told ZF, without providing further
details. The site tends to partner with companies such as
retailers, event organisers, theatres, restaurants and even beauty
salons. Groupon's revenues mainly come from commissions included in
the price of offers negotiated with partner companies. Groupon's
Romanian site, www.groupon.ro, will be functional (will promote
offers i.e.) in about one week's time, according to Tunakan.
