Romtelecom, ranking second on the domestic fixed-line Internet services market, expanded its optical fibre network in ten major cities and Ilfov county, with the investment allowing the company to provide Internet data downloading speeds of as much as 100 Mbps, like rival RCS&RDS and UPC companies.

According to the data on Romtelecom's website, which as a first created a special section dedicated to optical fibre services, the company's network is available in Ilfov county and in cities such as Bucharest, Alba Iulia, Bacău, Brăila, Buzău, Cluj, Ploieşti and Sibiu. The company offers clients the possibility of checking whether they are in the coverage area of the optical fibre network through an application available on the web page.

Romtelecom's representatives did not provide additional information on the company's investment in the optical fibre network.

UPC, which in late September 2010 had over 250,000 fixed-line Internet clients, launched 100 Mbps Internet services only in Cluj.

At present, according to the data ZF collected from the company's website, RCS&RDS's fibre network covers 76 cities.
