How much it costs to own a new car in Romania

The overall average costs entailed by using the car, the taxes and insurance for a new car amount to at least 124 euros per month, i.e. close to Romania's minimum wage, in the case of a Dacia Logan model with the weakest engine, and can exceed 800 euros for the owners of saloon cars such as Mercedes, a sum that can cover rent of a three-room luxury apartment in central Bucharest, shows a ZF survey.
A Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI entails monthly costs of around 162 euros, while a BMW X5 with a 3.0-litre diesel engine, costs 487 euros per month.
Therefore, technical inspection aside, the owner of a Logan ends up paying nearly a quarter of the car's acquisition price on fuel, taxes and insurance, and if the car is purchased on credit or under a leasing agreement, annual costs double.
