RCS&RDS takes over TV and Internet service market of Sighişoara, too
The operator controlled by Zoltan Teszari and Romtelecom
continue the battle over the acquisition of the several hundred
small cable operators with merely thousands of clients.
RCS&RDS Group and Romtelecom, through its own cable operator
NextGen, which are involved in a fierce fight over market share,
continue to be the most active operators in terms of acquisitions
of small cable TV and Internet providers. There were more than 500
providers of cable TV services in mid last year, even though
RCS&RDS and UPC alone accounted for 2.7 millions of the 3.4
million cable TV clients.
The takeover of the client base in Sighişoara of the Teleson
operator was, market sources say, the latest confrontation of the
two companies. Romtelecom is said to have initially discussed with
Teleson last year, but then RCS&RDS came with an aggressive
offer and managed to sign an agreement with the company held by
PD-L (Democratic-Liberal Party) Senator Petru Başa. Several sources
on the market say that RCS&RDS comes up with counteroffers
almost every time Romtelecom starts talks with smaller cable
operators. Romtelecom's acquisitions are supervised by Ovidiu
Ghiman, who was RCS&RDS' commercial manager until 2009.
Romtelecom is number three on the TV market with one million
clients and is trying to catch up with leader RCS&RDS and
leaving number two, UPC, behind.
