The bank that gives you 499 euros per 1 euro of your own money
Thousands of Romanians have been attracted in the past few years
by the mirage of the big gains you can make in a very short span of
time via Forex transactions, which offer the benefit that you can
conduct transactions several hundred times larger than you could if
you used only your own money.
Brokerage firms that intermediate forex transactions allow
investors to do margin trading. So, for one euro brought by the
investor, the broker credits the client with 99 euros or even with
499 euros in certain cases. This way, investors' profits, as well
as their losses increase hundreds of times because the broker
basically supplies almost the entire amount used in the
transactions. In this way, Romanians ended up trading several
hundred thousand euros' worth of foreign currencies on the
international markets.
The name "forex" encompasses all the world's foreign exchange
markets and allows investors to bet on the appreciation or
depreciation of a currency against another.
"The Forex market is enormous, it's practically the biggest
financial market, which means it is very difficult to manipulate.
So technical analysis is applicable on this market and there are no
liquidity problems for the major currency pairs. Trading platforms
are easy to use, but unfortunately there is a very high risk that
goes with it, the forex market being one of the most difficult
financial markets," says Luca Dezmir, an eager Forex trader.
