The stadium called 23 August until 1990, Lia Manoliu until 2007 and Naţional Arena as of this year, has taken four years to build but has been awaited for 20 years, since Romania started to lag behind in terms of sporting infrastructure. What does this investment that costs 200 million euros mean as far as construction work is concerned? In the first half of March, builders started to erect the structure of the retractable roof, which will allow the stadium to be functional from the end of March to the end of November.

"A few days ago we started the so-called "big lift", i.e. lifting the roof structure. Then, the roof covering, the floodlights, the audio system and other adjacent elements will be installed," says Ştefan Monus, the project's coordinating manager from the Max Boegl-Astaldi joint venture, which is building the stadium.

In the last week of March, the lifting of the roof structure will be ready, with the roof to be fully completed and functional at the end of May.
