Tax payers in Târgu Mureş and in Bucharest's sectors 2 and 6 can pay their taxes and fines online since yesterday through the national system ghişeul.ro (www.ghiseul.ro), which is managed and operated by the National Management Centre for Information Society (CNMSI), an institution subordinated to the Communications Ministry.

"www.ghiseul.ro is the solution to several problems, both of citizens and of local administrations, bringing added comfort, security and speed to tax payment. The endless queues at the counters will be a thing of the past," Valerian Vreme, Communications Minister, said during a conference.

Whilst at present only local authorities whose mayors are from the parties that support the Government (PD-L and UNPR) have joined the National Electronic System for Online Payment of Taxes using bank cards (SNEP), the system will grow in the future, because the Government has issued a decision making it mandatory.

"The system is very easy to implement by any local authority. In order to do this, town halls only need to enrol in the system of their own initiative or at the request of the citizens they represent," Vreme said. In order to make a payment, citizens will access the SNEP through a username and a password, which they will get from the local authorities, after which they will get access to a list of their tax dues.
