Banks are gradually shifting to providing electronic services, such as Internet-banking and electronic banking, as fiercer competition in attracting clients challenges the banks' imagination, mainly in cutting the time needed for performing banking transactions.
Following the launch of the MultiCash service, which allows Banca Comerciala Romana (Romanian Commercial Bank -BCR) clients to make payments and get information about their accounts by computer, BCR on Wednesday announced the release of e_BCR, a new e-banking service.
The new product, e_BCR, is aimed at SMEs with permanent banking activity, but with a relatively low operational volume, which carry out their financial-accounting activities with few employees and do no have IT specialists.
The e_BCR electronic-banking allows making payments in ROL over the Internet, as well as obtaining account statements and treasury information without the client having to go the bank.
The new service substantially cuts the time needed for banking transfers, getting rid of all paper documents used in the client-bank relation.
The e_BCR system is currently available in beta version as of March 2001, being used by 15 companies such as S.C Eltop Gorj, Pergo SA Bihor, Esto Romania Arad, Firmelbo Botosani, Integraf Caras, Cad Integrator Bucharest and Est SRL Olt.
To use the new service, a company must fill an access form at the BCR branch which manages its account, form that must be signed by the person authorised to run banking operations (who has the right to sign any document in the client-BCR relation).
In its turn, BCR will send the client the programmes to be installed on the company's computer by e-mail and the company will generate the initialising letter and submit it to the BCR branch, which handles its account. The client will be able to use the e_BCR system the next business day after submitting the initialising letter.
The bank provides each user with passwords and electronic signature to make sure the operations and information remain fully confidential.
The e_BCR service will be provided to all the legal person clients of the bank, as of the second half of April. At the same time, e_BCR is suitable for BCR natural person clients, who will be able to use it soon.
The costs of using the new services are the same as those of Multicash, depending on the services chosen by the client. Those already using Multicash will not be required to pay any additional fees.
