Compania Nationala Administratia Porturilor Maritime Constanta (Constanta Maritime Harbours Administration National Company- CNAPMC) on Saturday dedicated the integrated IT system to manage its activities. The project was carried out by a consortium, with Bull Romania and Siveco Romania as top players. The other two companies involved were Crescendo SA and Datek Telecom SA.
The project, named Neptun by the companies that implemented it, started in the fall of 1998, although the idea of implementing such an IT system can be traced back to 1994. "Total costs reached $2.4 million and it was entirely funded by our company," Mircea Marcu, CNAPMC general manager, said.
The project will also have a second stage aimed at computerisation of the entire harbour platform, scheduled for completion by the end of 2003, according to Marcu.
"This is impressive especially because Romanian software companies took part in it," said the minister of Public Works, Transports and Housing, Miron Mitrea, who attended the event.
Neptun included designing, developing, installing, configuring and implementing a full solution (servers and workstations, networks and applications).
Two Cluster NSPF (no single point of failure) servers were installed, as well as complementary networks (fibre optics, structured wiring, radio transmissions), including the equipment required by a reliable permanent connection between every work post (routers, switches, bridges etc.), more than 200 state-of-the-art workstations, an Oracle database management system, operating systems and applications compliant with the technical specifications.
The implementation of applications fell upon Siveco Romania, which provided the Siveco Applications Integrated IT System, already tested by the company at more than 1,000 clients in 30 countries (100 in Romania included).
The integrated system in Constanta allows inputting the information in a single place and making it available for all the other applications, so that the APMC management could have access to synthetic and analytical data about economic indexes and harbour traffic in real time, which is a very sound and useful basis for efficient decisions.
The harbour-related activities and the procedures used in everyday APMC employees' work were turned into 17 integrated applications, which include 168 modules with complex functions (financial management, accounting, contracts, litigation, equipment maintenance/repair, general stock management, employees record, harbour access information management and many more).
