Regardless of the Government's plan to improve the business environment, the conditions in Romania remain the least attractive for investors as compared to the other European Union applicants, Bulgaria included. Worse yet, the prospects for the next five years are not that bright, either. The latest survey of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), division of the British The Economist Group verifies that. The survey shows Romania is 49th in a ranking based on the business environment prospects for the next five years, which includes 60 countries. Much farther up ahead are those countries that will join the European Union next year. The business environment in the Czech Republic is the highest rated, ranking 26th. Most of the countries in region actually provide much more business-friendly environments than Romania, with Hungary ranking 28th, Poland - 29th, Slovakia -34th and Bulgaria - 40th. ZF
