Businessman George Copos, owner of the Ana Hotels group, whichholds seven hotels across Romania, is seeking luxury brand tenantsfor a commercial space in the lobby of Bucharest's five-star hotelHilton, which will be modernised following an investment of severalmillion euros.
"We intend to set up a commercial space in the lobby of thehotel, one that is up to the standards of the Hilton chain and weare already in negotiations with several potential tenants," saidGeorge Copos, without specifying how many square metres would beallocated for the store. He added it would be a monobrand store.The Hilton hotel currently accommodates two stores, La Casa delHabano, which sells Cuban cigars, and jewellery store MardiKian.Retailers bring additional revenues to hotel operators from rent,which can amount to as much as 50-60 euros/square metres in afive-star hotel. Some hotels even accommodate shopping galleries intheir lobbies. Such is the case of JW Marriott, which has LouisVuitton, Rolex, and other stores in its lobby. Copos posted 26million euros in revenues from its seven hotels last year. Thebusinessman's hotel businesses dropped 26% in RON last year, to 110million RON, the biggest decline of the last few years.
