The town of Deva could attract investments worth 140 million euros in retail and tourism within the next two years. A series of foreign investors, which include Carrefour and the hotel chain Ibis, were about to secure a town planning certificate with a view to begin construction works for a shopping centre and a three-star hotel near Deva (Hunedoara county), said the town's mayor, Mircia Muntean. He told the Mediafax agency that the commercial and tourism park, which involves planned investments estimated at 70 million euros, will include Carrefour, Media Galaxy, BauMax and Bricostore, as well as an Ibis hotel. According to ZF estimates, the project could create over 900 jobs in the area in retail alone. "At the beginning of next week, the investors' representatives will arrive Deva and collect the town planning certificate, which is necessary to begin construction. The works will start immediately, and are scheduled for completion by July 1, 2008," added Muntean.
