DHL to become supplier of integrated logistics services

07.04.2006, 00:00 23

Alexandru Gheorghe, the commercial manager of DHL Romania, the international express delivery company, believes there will be no change in how the main players are positioned in the shipment services market after integration into the EU.

Estimated at over 30 million euros, the market of international delivery services will continue to grow at the current pace after Romania joins the European Union Alexandru Gheorghe believes.

"The growth of the international express delivery market is dependent on the growth of the economic environment. The fact that Romania is expected to witness the same rapid pace of growth, around 5% annually after EU integration, makes us optimistic. After integration, I do not believe there will be any changes in how the main players are positioned on this market.

"My statement is backed by both the fact that DHL offer is validated by our evolution on this market, as well as the information we''ve received from our colleagues of the 10 countries that joined the European Union in 2004, where hierarchies remained unchanged after integration," believes Gheorghe.

DHL plans to invest more than 1.3 million euros this year to buy new cars and replace the old ones, to develop a terminal designed for road transportation services, to have a new operational aircraft and to develop the nationwide infrastructure.

"Our transportation capacity increased by 20% year-on-year in 2005, and in 2006 the pace will speed up and take our fleet to more than 180 cars by yearend," explains Gheorghe.

DHL plans to acquire 104 freight transportation vehicles this year.

"Our wish is to position ourselves as a provider of integrated logistics services through this expansion and become the leaders of this market on the long term," he added.

DHL Romania posted 35% higher turnover last year, 18 million euros, in line with estimations made at the beginning of the year.

"Our projections proved to be accurate. DHL posted a 35% turnover growth in 2005.

"The factors that drove this growth mainly were the massive investments aimed at infrastructure and the strategy the company embraced globally, turning itself from a provider of shipment services into a provider of complex logistics services and becoming capable of offering our customers a wide range of services from a single source," stated Gheorghe.
