Emerson asks for guarantees

US-based Emerson Electric, a world leader in the electrical engine industry, has decided to invest 125 million euros in Cluj. Its representatives, however, notified the local authorities that the project would only start after the County Council of Cluj made all utilities for the Tetarom II industrial park available. County Council chairman Marius Nicoara told ZF Transilvania that the Emerson officials had agreed to pay nearly 2 euros per square metre for the plot of land inside Tetarom II, but would only do so if they saw the decision of the County Council observed. "I received word from London that the representatives of Emerson are circumspect, particularly because of past events regarding the French company Montupet, which dropped its investment in Cluj because of some local councillors," Nicoara explained. He added that the demand made by some of the local councillors, requesting that Montupet provide facilities in order to invest in Cluj, had ruined the County Council''s image. "Emerson will not invest unless everything that the County Council promised in terms of infrastructure and utilities is delivered," Nicoara explained. He added these works would cost the County Council no more than 500,000 euros. ZF
