US-based Emerson Electric Group, a world leader in the electrical engine industry, has announced it will begin construction of the new factories in Cluj in January next year, after the county councillors approved the framework contract. Emerson Electric intends to build five production facilities in Cluj that will make small electrical engines and a research centre, with the total investment set to exceed 125 million euros. George Varmuza (photo), Emerson''s manager for the Central and Eastern Europe, explained the business would gradually expand so as to include more programmes and divisions, comparing Romania to the other countries in the region where the American company has constantly invested. "We have already gone from 200 workers in Croatia to 2600 and from 3 buildings to 18. They are still building right now as we speak," Varmuza explained. He estimated Emerson would be building all the facilities it needs in Cluj in the next five years. The Emerson official added that over the next few years at least 200 engineers from Cluj would be hired for design and production in the field of research and development. "We had watched the Romanian market for a while and eventually chose Cluj because of the Technical University, which is a qualified source of the labour we need. We intend to hire engineers both experienced and not, once construction is finalised," Varmuza stated. ZF
