The Foreign Affairs Commission of the European Parliament brought up the report for Romania worked out by Baroness Emma Nicholson in April, two days ago.
The report to be debated by European Parliament's plenum in September has undergone substantial modifications and the Romanian Government feels it is now much more balanced.
"The Romanian Government was pleased to see the content of debates within the Foreign Affairs Commission of the European Parliament about the report for Romania drafted by the rapporteur for Romania, Baroness Emma Nicholson, presented during the general discussion about applicant countries that started accession negotiations," reads a Government release issued on Tuesday.
During the debates in the Commission, 76 amendments of the European MPs and of specialised Committees of the European Parliament were presented, with 20 of them originating from the Baroness herself.
Nicholson highlighted the progress in child protection made by the Romanian authorities over the past few months.
The Romanian Government is pleased to see the "two paragraphs making serious accusations against Romania, that is the one about Romania not observing the political criterion in Copenhagen and the request to have the accession negotiations suspended in case the institutionalised children situation is not properly addressed," have been dropped from the report, the Government release shows.
