Finance Ministry to borrow foreign currency

03.04.2003, 00:00 12

Romania could release the scheduled seven-year eurobond issue worth 500 million euros sometime in May. The short-list to be used for selecting the banks to broker the issue has just been put together, after the Finance Ministry chose six of the 17 banks that submitted bids. The moment when the issue is launched will actually depend on the conditions on the international markets, which have been rather unfavourable lately, with increasing yields for the bonds issued by almost every single country in the region. Until such time comes, the Finance Ministry will extend the foreign currency issues released on the domestic market over the last few years by releasing two new T-bill tranches worth $400 million together this month and the next. The Finance Ministry has not provided details about the maturity of the USD-denominated T-bills yet. Foreign-currency denominated T-bills issues worth about $100 million are due this month, while those maturing next month amount to slightly more than $300 million. ZF
