Furniture manufacturer Alprom sees exports down 24%

20.06.2008, 20:37 6

Furniture manufacturer Alprom Pitesti, one of the leading players in the industry, exported around 64% of its output, compared with 88% in 2005. The decline in deliveries to foreign markets occurred mainly in the 2005 - mid-2007 period, when the RON saw a significant appreciation against the main foreign currencies, and was offset by the increase in the production dedicated to the domestic market. "The depreciation of the RON seen of late did not help us very much, because utility prices rose, a trend which is estimated to continue in the future, as well. In February alone, natural gas price rose 8.5%, and July is estimated to see over 20% increases," said Dumitru Petcu, general manager of Alprom Pitesti, who added that producers need price stability. The company ended 2007 with turnover worth 52.7 million RON (15.7 million euros), down 33.6% against the 79.4 million RON (22.5 million euros) reported in 2006.
