20.01.2005, 00:00 17

US Gloria Jean's Company, which runs the leading chain of coffee shops in malls across the United States, has entered the Romanian market by opening its first coffee shop in Bucharest in Plaza Romania. Plans for the next three years involve the development of a 20 to 30-strong coffee shop chain in Romania, most of which will be located in malls. The investment in acquiring the master franchise and opening the first shop was 500,000 euros. "We will open 4 or 5 more coffee shops in Bucharest this year, as well as one in Timisoara in September, with the amount of investment involved estimated at around one million euros. Later, we intend to expand to Iasi, Constanta and other major cities based on franchise contracts," explained Ismail Isik, vice-president of Gourmet Products Servicii SA, the master franchise holder for Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. The company has already signed a second contract with City Mall (the mall on the road to Giurgiu, which is scheduled to open this spring), is negotiating contracts with Iulius Mall in Timisoara, and is considering a location in Piata Universitatii in Bucharest. Gourmet Products Servicii was established by shareholders of the Turkish Ener Holding group in order to secure the master franchise. ZF
