Cluj-Napoca-based Grandemar, a company that specialises in the extraction of rock for construction, announced that it would invest more than million euros this year to modernise and expand quarries in Poieni and Bologa and to acquire new vehicles. "We intend to invest approximately 1.5 million euros in the modernisation and expansion of quarries in Poieni and Bologa. We have successfully acquired the land around the quarries and will soon start to clear and prepare for mining," Simona Voican, Grandemar representative told ZF Transilvania. The company invested more than 3.6 million euros in 2007 to upgrade the mining installations at its own quarries, to buy equipment and machinery for its production operations and to expand extraction capacities at the Moigrad and Morlaca quarries. "The company is now one of the main suppliers of quarry aggregates for the Transylvania highway, after it signed a partnership deal with Bechtel, while work on the highway will require a large of amount of rock, so that the modernisation and expansion of quarries (to boost capacity) will continue this year, as well," Simona Voican adds.
