Indesit expects recovery after 2012

Home appliances importer Indesit Romania, a top three home appliances brand in Romania in terms of market share, estimates consumption has returned to the 2003-2004 level, with a recovery possible after 2012. Giuseppe Parma, the new manager of the company, says the situation of the Romanian market is a normal one, and that it depends on the progression of the overall European economy. "Here we are a top three company (after Arctic and Electrolux i.e.), and our target is profitability. The crisis will not last forever, and we are preparing for growth when the market returns to normal. We were also in Moscow in 1998, after the crisis, and things were more serious there. Now we are market leaders," said Parma, who replaced Eugen Paturan, the Romanian who had run Indesit in the last ten years. For next year the company anticipates the same level of sales as in 2009, when volumes were down 30%. Therefore, from the 300,000 units sold last year, Indesit expects to sell around 210,000 units in 2009.
