PepsiCo decline remains double digit

The first financial report for the third quarter of the year ofa top player in the soft drinks and snacks industry fails to reveala rebound in local consumption.

American-held PepsiCo, which holds the Pepsi bottler on theRomanian market and Star Foods, the producer of Lay's chips, postedan over 10% decline in sales volumes on the Romanian market againstthe similar time in 2009, according to its latest financial reportpublished in the United States.
Both market segments covered by PepsiCo in Romania, soft drinks andsnacks, saw double-digit declines in the third quarter.
The nine-month decline in PepsiCo's sales volume remaineddouble-digit, similar to that recorded in the first half of theyear. PepsiCo this year started the merger of QuadrantAmroq-Beverages with Star Foods, following the full takeover ofPepsi Americas bottler in an international transaction.
The local Pepsi producer also saw a decline in its sales volume ofover 10% on 2008, with the decline in the value of the turnoveramounting to an even steeper 20%. Quadrant Amroq-Beverages posted160.3 million euros in turnover last year, compared with 202.2million euros in 2008, according to Trade Registry data.
In turn, Star Foods, whose portfolio includes brands such as Lay's,Krax, and Cheetos, and which owns a plant in Popeşti Leordeni(Ilfov county), reported 347 million-RON (82 million-euro) turnoverlast year, down 4% on 2008, according to Trade Registry data.
