Porsche sees 6% increase in seven months and sells over 600m euros worth of cars

The new Audi A4 was the best-selling model with 801 units

The biggest player on the car imports market, which generated turnover worth above 1bn euros last year according to ZF estimates, sold 34,036 cars in the first seven months of this year, up 6% against the same period last year.
According to ZF estimates, Porsche Romania's turnover generated by car sales went beyond the 600m-euro mark in the first seven months.
In July, the first month when the new environment tax came into effect (being smaller in the case of used cars and higher in the case of new ones compared with the one introduced on January 1, 2007), Porsche Romania's sales reached 5,564 units, 1.3% above the level posted during the previous month, but 1% below sales generated during the same period last year.
Brent Valmar, the new general manager of Porsche Romania, expects the company's sales to advance by 5% at the most this year.
Porsche Romania participated in this year's "Rabla" programme ("Junk Car", a programme designed to stimulate people to replace their old vehicles), which started on June 1, with 5,886 cars, which included 2,789 Skodas and 2,159 Volkswagens.
This September, Porsche will start importing Bentley. "Porsche Romania has signed the service and distribution contract for Bentley and Lamorghini brands. The new location, which will include Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley showrooms, is due to open within twelve months," Valmar said.
Skoda continued as the company's best-selling brand, with 15,361 units sold during the first seven months of this year, up 13% against last year, whilst the brand's target for this year, namely 27,000 units, would entail a 16% increase in 2008.
Audi, the premium brand of VW-Audi group, in January-July registered sales worth 1,777 units, up 13% against the same period last year. The new Audi A4 was the best-selling model with 801 units. Volkswagen, the second highest volume brand of the German group, posted a 2% increase on the domestic market and reached 14,438 units.
In the first seven months, Seat sold almost 2,400 units. Porsche brand's sales registered a slight decrease in the first seven months and reached 79 units, compared with the 84 units sold in the same period of 2007.
According to Valmar, Porsche Romania's dealership network will reach over 100 units this year, from over 90 at present.
