Bucharest Airport Hotel, a three-star hotel that cost $11 million to build has been officially operating since August 6, said Nimrod Sofer, general manager of Comtel Focus Company, owner of the complex.
The hotel is located near the Otopeni International Airport and will operate independently until the negotiations for its inclusion in one of the international hotel chains are over.
The construction of the hotel started in 1998, with several brands owned by international chains said to have been chosen for the name of the Otopeni-based hotel.
When it first started to build the hotel, Comtel Focus began talks with Holiday Inn representatives, but the negotiations for the affiliation of the hotel to this brand fell through, as the foreign company had additional requirements for the hotel to be included in the standards of the brand in question.
"Furthermore, the construction of the hotel was delayed due to problems with the local authorities, and those at Holiday Inn did not agree to wait," Sofer added. Comtel Focus management later began talks with Ramada, one of the major hotel chains operating under the franchise system.
Comtel Focus is currently negotiating with several companies, according to Nimrod Sofer, the first two potential partners, Holiday Inn and Ramada included.
