The county champions, the drivers of economic growth

Firms' wealth is distributed differently: whereas Bucharestholds more than ten firms with turnover worth above 500m euros eachlast year, Iasi, Vrancea, Vaslui, Botosani and Teleorman countiesdo not have any firm with receipts of more than 80m euros in 2009,in line with data ZF got from the Trade Registry on Romania's 300largest firms. In the counties holding industrial resources, thebiggest firms are state-owned, mining, and oil ones. Other countiesare sustained by the foreign investments of multinationals such asNokia, Renault, Continental or Holcim, while in Harghita the mostimportant player in the economy is businessman Octavian Cretu, andNelu Iordache owns through Romstrade the biggest firm of Giurgiu.As expected, the biggest businesses of Romania are registered inBucharest and Ilfov county, where retail, telephony or oil industrymultinationals have set their headquarters. The presence of somelarge companies in each county is extremely important for localbudgets, wherefrom investments to develop infrastructure andattract further investors can be started.
