The inhabitants of cities such as Bucharest, Budapest, andWarsaw enjoy higher-speed, better quality, and cheaper Internetservices than Western European countries, largely because of thetight competition among providers of cable TV in the region, saidin Bucharest Manuel Kohnstamm - communication and public policiesmanager of the group that owns UPC and chairman of the associationof European cable operators.
"You will not find the services that you do in Central and EasternEurope in Rome or in many other Western European cities," saidManuel Kohnstamm at a conference dedicated to the TV and telecommarket in the region, organised by Informa Telecoms & Media inBucharest.
On the Romanian fixed Internet market UPC is no. 3, afterRCS&RDS and Romtelecom. The maximum Internet download speedoffered by UPC on the Romanian market is currently 24 Mbps, but thecompany is planning to increase speeds through investments in thenetwork.
The Romanian Internet market, worth 200 million euros last year,has several years of accelerated growth ahead given that only onein three households was using high-speed Internet at the end of2009.
