In the first two weeks since its launch, MyX.net portal registered 35,000 unique visitors who browsed more than one million pages and generated approximately 100,000 SMS traffic, Alexandru Hurdubaie, director of data with Connex, told Ziarul Financiar.
The mobile portal, the first of its kind in Romania, was launched in late July, with its services provided free of charge until September 15. As of mid September, each of the MyX.net services will be charged as follows: redial text message - 4 cents, SMS message - 7 cents, alerts to the mobile phone - 4 cents/each, e-mail sent to the mobile - 4 cents.
All prices are VAT exclusive and the MyX.net services will be billed on the same invoice as the voice services for Connex subscribers. In case of the clients who chose prepaid subscriptions, the MyX.net services cost will be deducted from the credit the client has with Connex.
"MyX.net portal is a tool that targets both the business segment by applications such as e-mail, calendar, agenda, "to do list", which allow for a more efficient activity, and the average user by its entertainment section. A satisfied client is our target," Alexandru Hurdubaie said. MyX.net is also the first portal in Romania advertising on the famous search engine Yahoo!.
With more than 100,000 clients, XNET is the leading dial-up Internet service provider in Romania, which is also verified by a chart drawn up by RomTelecom last month.
The chart considers the number of minutes various dial-up Internet service providers generate, which places XNET first with more than 55% in traffic. In other words, 55% of the Romanian dial-up Internet users are XNET subscribers. "The runners-up in this chart are seemingly PCNET and FX Internet," Hurdubaie estimates.
Connex and XNET are two business lines of a single company, MobiFon SA and it is practically impossible to separate the financial results, because both divisions share resources such as the voice and data transmission network, resources of the operational departments, engineers, IT specialists, as well as the marketing department, the official says.
MobiFon in H1 made $164.6 million in service revenues, up 19% compared with the same time in 2000. Operating profit went up 72% during the same interval, reaching $51 million.
As for the future, "XNET and Connex share the same plans and goal, aiming at positioning MobiFon SA as a full communications solutions provider," Hurdubaie specified. At the moment, XNET has more than 500 broadband ports, that is more than 500 corporate clients using this technology.
"I find it hard to make a hierarchy of the broadband market, as there is no official information about the number of clients each ISP has," the Connex official said.
XNET has a significant service portfolio for the business segment, which includes Internet access by radio solutions, VPN (virtual private networks) for companies that have branches throughout the country, frame relay services (for the banking sector) that require a high degree of confidentiality and security, collocation of servers and dial-up access within virtual private networks.
