Daniel Nentu is nothing like the traditional businessman: he is not 40 years old, not even 30, he wears no suit, tie or briefcase and his mobile phone does not ring non-stop.
However, the long-haired young man wearing blue jeans, a senior at the Polytechnics University, is a skilled businessman and has his own company, New Deal Catering.
"As I have a special gift for sales and business, in general, I used to sell anything - carpets, mobile phones, stationery and office goods, even pigs," Nentu says.
Although Daniel will become a transports engineer next year (if he passes all the exams scheduled for this fall), he established a company whose core business has nothing to do with his studies, choosing catering services instead.
New Deal Catering was established last October, after Daniel Nentu gained some experience and made connections in this field as an employee with a catering company.
Nentu took all kinds of jobs in order to get the money he needed for the company's start-up capital: he worked with Roton recording company, he was even a dancer and animator in Bucharest discos and collaborated with Showbiz, which provides the casting for Pro TV shows.
New Deal Catering aims to collaborate with a new category of clients having emerged in Romania over the past ten years, namely people who are too busy to go out to lunch.
"Unlike other companies, we do not refuse to collaborate with smaller companies, which subsequently order less," Nentu says.
Four full-time employees and two collaborators (used for serving at the bar or at the buffet) have processed the orders so far, but as the company is faring better, the number of employees is likely to increase.
New Deal Catering provides daily catering services (lunch at the companies' offices) and organises all kinds of events, no matter how big, from weddings to company parties.
The menu includes borsch, soups, basic dishes, salads, pizzas, and desserts as well as vegetarian food, for those who think about the animals.
Moreover, the company is always present with a bar or mobile buffet at concerts, exhibitions and festivals such as Beer Festival or Bucharest Days.
The company cook always uses fresh ingredients when preparing the food, avoiding frozen products, as the firm's owner says, "the stomach and liver are serious issues and we want no connection between our company and any possible troubles." Subsequently, his company headed toward a wide range of suppliers, from slaughterhouses to greenhouses.
As the company is still at the beginning, the owner intends to "annihilate" the competition with low prices; this is how he has managed to get some 60% of the orders so far.
"Our prices are 35-40 cents/menu lower than those charged by competitors," Nentu says.
"I think that another company would offer lower prices only if it had its own production of raw materials and did not have to resort to suppliers, which is impossible for the time being," he says.
