The number of foreign tourists who spent their holidays in Romania in the first six months of this year increased by 54% as compared to 2003, to almost 702,000 persons, while the total number of tourists at the national level stood at 2.4 million, the data supplied by the Tourism Ministry show. As regards the flow of Romanian tourists, it rose by 4% against 2003, to 1.7 million. Statistical data of the Transportation, Constructions and Tourism Ministry point to the same upward trend for foreign tourists, as well. Thus, their number increased by 21.2% in the first six months of this year, 2.75 million persons being registered, of whom 2.6 million visitors came from the European states. The flow of tourists coming from the American continents rose by 24.5%, to 61,135 persons, while a number of 59,000 persons arrived from Asian countries, that is 22.3% more. ZFx
