The first advice that Sibiu-based companies would give tosmaller companies that want to develop is to "dare" take out moneyfrom the European Union, even if "bureaucracy" is sometimesexcessive, and the support comes only if the risk is wellcalculated.

"This is a huge opportunity for big companies, as well as for smallones to grow," said Ioan Firiza, human resources manager of CompaSibiu, one of the five biggest Romanian-controlled exporters.

Firiza was present yesterday in Sibiu at the even titled CaravanaFondurilor Europene 2011 (European Funds Caravan 2011), organisedby ZF in partnership with Banca Transilvania, Bancpost, EximBankand consultancy Accreo.

The company obtained EU funding for 13 projects that involved thetraining of over 2,000 employees. The company has budgeted 112million-euro turnover for this year, with more than 100 millioneuros of it set to come from exports.

Sibiu-based entrepreneur Ilie Vonica, one of the strongest in thedrug industry, has used EU funds to develop his business and sayshe will continue to do so, although for now healthcare is notconsidered a priority sector for EU funds.
