Albalact forecasts growth of 60% plus

Albalact, a company from Alba County and one of the main players in the dairy industry in Romania, has revealed plans to build a milk-processing factory close to Alba-Iulia next year as part of a 5-million-euro investment.

"The new factory will double current production capacity, to bring it to 200,000 litres of processed milk per day as a result of the forecast investment," said Raul Ciurtin, chairman and majority shareholder of Albalact. According to Ciurtin, the details of the exact costs entailed by the new facility and its financing sources are yet to be worked out, but production would start ten months after the construction works begin.

"We are preparing to compete after 2007 on a market that will see the entry of more international brands," he added.

Albalact is not only interested in production.

The company started from a modest position on the Romanian dairy market, but became known after launching its Fulga brand, which doubled the company''s sales last year - from 6.4 million euros in 2003 to 11 million. Albalact expects its turnover to grow this year by at least 60% (16 million euros).

The company initiated a rebranding process in January, which is set to end next spring.

"Albalact was not a big name on the Romanian market before, however, after we saw the results for Fulga, we realised the brand was a key-element in the evolution of a company," Ciurtin explained, adding that the Albalact brand would be positioned on the popular segment. dana.ciriperu@zf.ro
